Last sleep at Panorama Bunaken

We wake early to the sound of roosters. I like it but some people are less enchanted. A day or two ago  a guest was more  than a little peeved to have been woken by a rooster under their bungalow.   Sven  was saying he would get a gun,  find it and shoot it. How anyone would  identify it among the multiple roosters I don’t know.  but I did wonder about the provenance of the  chicken we had for dinner.

Surely innocent

But last night I was woken when it seemed like all the dogs had gathered for  a howling circle. I’ve never experienced anything like it, barking in rounds and howling in harmony.  No idea if it was 5 dogs or a dozen. Someone counted 15 dogs around here and I’m inclined to  think they were all in on it.  It was an intense few minutes but what  was amazing was how they all stopped sharp together.

In the afternoon  the dive resorts rattle and roar with the sound of compressors.

And then cicadas at sunset. oh the sound..so loud. Amazing like a hypersonic sprinkler going off.

And finally we go to sleep. To sleep to the sound of  fans and geckos/cicak. How come the geckos here make a noise you can hear from across the room?

And so the night  time musicals  begin again. I tell you this because paradise doesn’t come without its own  slightly wacky soundtrack

And the mosquitos…..so quietly come..

  1. Fancy complaining about a rooster. They do sound off early but it’s fun to listen to. Such a different kind of holiday. Love reading your blog.
